standout Catalan méthod ancestrale
about Montrubi are both traditional and outliers, focusing on the local Sumoll grape variety as well as making méthode ancestral rather than traditional method sparkling wine. The winery and vineyards are located on a 100ha site in hills overlooking the Mediterranean. Winemaking began in 1984, though the property is much older—there is an eleventh century church and the winery building was constructed at the beginning of the twentieth century. Restaurant and hotel on site.

L’ancestral blanc 2022 ($25)
100% Parellada, from a vineyard planted in 1975. Quite a unique wine, made using the méthode ancestrale and solely from Parellada from relatively high plantings (350m). Alcohol is just 11%. Completely dry, high in acid, with a lightly creamy mouthfeel. Fresh and quite tasty. (Rosé also made from Sumoll.)
