standout innovative Classic Penedès producer
about Joan Albet i Rovirosa moved to Penedès in 1903, working vineyards in Sant Pau d'Ordal where the the modernised, structurally beautiful winery is still located. Albet i Noya was the producer the first to be certified organic in the Cava category. They’re based in the Ordal mountains west of Penedès, the elevation not far from the Mediterranean, adding freshness to the wines. Besides the classic Cava varieties, they have propagated two forgotten varieties, Belan and Marina Rion. The wines are extremely characteristic of Cava, though they left the D.O. when the Classic Penedès designation was created in 2013.

Petit Albet 2022 ($20)
Xarel·lo, Macabeu, Parellada. A more youthful style than Albet i Noya’s longer-aged wines. Smoky and nutty, very dry, (despite 5.8g/l of sugar) high acid, and a light lees influence (15 months ageing): very "cava."
