standout stand-out Lambrusco

about Cleto Chiarli owned an osteria in Modena in which he sold wine he had made and which became extremely popular. The wines became more commercially available, and became some of the biggest production of Lambrusco up until the Second World War when the facilities were bombed. Bottlings increased again in the 1950s, with Chiarli being one of the first to use the tank method. As volume grew, there was a dual focus: on commercial, popular wines and smaller production from carefully-managed vineyards. Although one of the pioneers of the tank method, Chiarli are one of the few Lambrusco producers to use the traditional method as well.
