standout elegant representation of Champagne as a whole

about the family goes back to 1802, but the modern history began in 1973 when Michel Gonet founded his own winery in Avize. His three children are all involved in the project which, unusually, also includes three wineries in Bordeaux. The winery has fruit in Côte des Blancs, Sézannais, and Côte des Bars for a range of styles, although Chardonnay is the dominant variety.

Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Les 3 Terroirs 2019 ($67)

100% Chardonnay. Bottled in June 2020, disgorged in December 2023, with a dosage of 4g/l. From three sites across Champagne: Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in Côte des Blancs, Vindey in Sézannais, and Montgueux in Côte des Bars (just one of two villages planted mostly to Chardonnay in the southerly region). The wine has a pleasing combination of lean, elegant acid and a gentle richness from the relatively warmer climate of Montgueux and from the lees ageing. A refined wine.
